Death
"It's over. And it's just beginning"
Don't fear the reaper.(I mean, I had to say it)
Oh, the Death card. This is the card that has made more movie cameos than Stan Lee or Matt Damon. You know that scene--the one when the wrinkled old lady in the black shawl in the dimly lit room leans over a candle on a table turning over Tarot cards. Then she shakes her head grimly and groans. And then…as ominous music plays, the camera pans in and reveals…The Death card. And then her face gets even more grim because this must mean our favorite character is going to die in the next scene.
Yeah. Um. No.
Life just isn't that literal. The Tarot certainly is more imaginative than that. When the Death card shows up, sure, something in your life might be coming to a close. But that's not bad news. In fact it's just the beginning of something great, if you allow it.
One of the things I love about the Death card in all versions of the Tarot is that it often has a dramatic artistic portrayal. Yeah, it's dramatic. The Death card foretells large-scale intense life-changing transformation.
Things are going to be really different from this moment forward.
And it may not be a quick process so get ready for a real journey not just a fast costume change. Trust me, I know. I had a whole year when every time I touched a Tarot deck I pulled the Death card, AND every time I touched a deck of Oracle cards I pulled "Surrender." And that's what you have to do. Surrender.
Get on the back of the grim reaper's horse and see where he leads you.
I wouldn't change that year of my life. I ended a relationship, lost most of my friends, quit my job, moved across the country twice-- and oh right, became a professional Tarot card reader. It was hard, but I got to know myself in a much deeper way, I stopped accepting unacceptable conditions in my life, and I opened the doorway to become the person I am now. But the person I had been, that had to die, big time, and though I bless all she was, I am glad I let her go.
You can do this. It is a usually a long process with the Death card, but it is always worth it. And um…you kind of have no choice. The Death card is not here to negotiate, it's here to transform you in ways you may not have been able to do for yourself. So say "yes" and "thank you," even on the hardest days.
